TÜRI ARTIFICIAL LAKE, 02.12.2007

The Türi artificial lake was established in 1989-1992 as a reservoir for Kirna collective farm on the eastern edge of Türi in the Pärnu riverbed and alluvial area. The artificial lake is fed by springs. The artificial lake is separated from the River Pärnu by a massive border dam that is 9 meters wide and 840 meters long. The reflecting surface of the artificial lake, under normal conditions, is 5.5 hectares; the average depth is 3.2 meters, in which case the lake has a volume of 176,000 m3; the deepest section is 4.75 meters. The majority of the bottom sediments in the artificial lake are sandy loam, and sandy clay. The purpose of establishing the artificial lake was to add colour to the landscape near the town and to create a swimming location with a sandy beach for the town residents. Currently the artificial lake is a part of the Türi recreation area, being the only public bathing beach in the town or its environs.
