Return to Saaremaa along the causeway and after 6km turn left. If there is time, stop after a further kilometre at the ruined church at Pöide. Before the war it was as splendid as the others already described but its use as a military depot by the Soviet army and the destruction of the tower by lightning in 1940 have ruined the interior. Reconstruction has begun and part of the flooring is of glass to reveal the archaeological discoveries below.
