A manor was in Olustvere as early as at the end of the Order period, seated
a bit to the north from the present one. The present structures of the Olustvere magnificent manor complex, founded by Nikolai Fersen, date from
the 19th–20th centuries. The main building, completed in the Heimat style
in 1903, was a modern building with even electricity, telephone and water
pipes installed. A distillery made of natural stones, cow sheds, granaries,
cellars, a granary and dryer, the latter completed in 1913, have survived. All
works were mechanized and powered by electricity. The buildings expose
excellent masonry. Olustvere leaves an English impression both in its exterior
and interior design. The park was reconstructed by Georg Kuphaldt, the
city gardener of Riga, who has been also connected with the enlargement of
Toila-Oru park, Kadriorg park and Pärnu beach park. The oldest tree in the
park is a 300-years old two-branch oak, so-called “oak of love“. Olustvere
has also a local history museum, which can boast of a collection of stuffed
animals, presented by J. Tilk, an alumnus of the agricultural school which
functioned in the building for many years, and an exhibition of wooden
sculptures made by Voldemar Luht, a local master. V. Luht has carved almost
500 horse figures, which feature the history of Estonia through work done
by horses in old times.
